I was asked to be a Team Leader for the Autism Speaks - walk for Autism Awareness for 2011-2015. I wasn't able to attend each of the years, but I was able to create teams and participate in 2011-2013. The walks are at the Mall of www.WalkNowForAutismSpeaks.org/Minnesota. Please consider a donation.
Natalie Davis, Miss America's "Miss Minnesota 2011", sang the National Anthem at the 2011 Fundraiser. Her brother is challenged with Autism. Natalie was my co-emcee at my Polar Bear fundraiser when I was 9.
In honor of Women's Friendship Month, I collected several boxes filled with various hygiene products and donated them to a St. Paul Women's Shelter.
Many times, because of domestic abuse, women and children have to flee their homes very quickly and restart their lives in a shelter. While they can often find clothing donors, the shelters have a difficult time keeping up with the demands of the various hygiene products they also need.
There are many young children who need a new stuffed animal to hug. Some of the children are in foster care, others are hospitalized and yet others have parents who are very ill, dying or incarcerated. The West Chester Bear Project (in Pennsylvania) gives those young children in need the gift of a new teddy bear of their own to hug.
In October, 2011, I organized a school-wide teddy bear drive at my school and also asked friends for donations. I ended up with more than two huge suit cases filled with bears.
Thank you to everyone who donated a bear to this project!
