Of course, it took a lot of help to pull this off! I knew I couldn't do this alone, so I recruited sister queens to help out. I'd like to recognize them and thank them here. Natalie Davis, Miss South Central, was my co-emcee and also sang a song. Stephanie Cohen & Amber Reiner, from ANTSO, collected tickets, gave facts about the polar bears and helped with the silent and live auctions. The Miss You Can Do It queens, which is an organization that recognizes women with disabilities, passed out programs, talked about their program and scored the poster contest.
We also had sponsors who helped make this event possible. We were sponsored by Metro State University, who gave us a discount on the space rental; Borton Volvo, who funded many of the costs including the AV costs, and Holly O'Dell, from O'Dell Communications, who volunteered to handle media.
Don Shelby, head WCCO TV news anchor (shown in photo on the right) heard about my fundraiser (thanks to Holly O'Dell). He has been heavily involved with volunteer work and has a personal interest in polar bears. So, he volunteered to give opening remarks. He also brought in a camera crew, and it was featured on the 10:00 news!
