A good friend of mine, Grace Myler, organized a fundraising/dance team to raise money for the Special Olympics . Grace always joins my teams and helps me out whenever she can on the volunteer service projects that I organize, so of course, I was happy to join her team in return.
Grace's family takes care of four special-needs adults who live with them in a group-home environment, so the Unity Dance Marathon was a perfect event for Grace to start a team. The team members get pledges for "marathon" dancing. The event took place at the Mall of America and was completely packed full of participants, who danced the night away to loud, peppy music.
Grace is one of the hardest working volunteers I've ever met. She's organized or participated in countless community service events over the years, and I'm really proud of all she's done. She even opened a MN branch of the Threads for Teens organization, which gives free gently-used clothes to disadvantaged teens.
If you'd like more information about the Unified Dance Marathon, you can follow the link below. The plan is to have it be an annual event.
